Steven Turner Obituary

Steven Turner, 59, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on September 6, 2021 in Timpson, Texas. He was born on August 30, 1962 in Houston, Texas, to the late Robert Turner and Gay Nell Johnson. Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church in Timpson, Texas officiated by Bro. Levi Cohorst. Internment will follow Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Timpson, Texas.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church in Timpson, Texas.

Steve was born in Houston and when he was about 10 years old his family moved to Timpson, Texas.  He graduated from Timpson High School in 1980.  He attended college at SFA, and soon after moved to Houston to work for Fina as a chemical lab technician. Steve moved to Tennessee, where he got a job building kayaks and eventually became a master boat builder.  His love for kayaks was not just for building them, he also enjoyed floating down rivers and creeks.  He lived in Tennessee for 15 years before moving back to Texas.  Steve truly had a love for the outdoors and was an animal lover. He could often be found on a river or creek floating or fishing.  Steve liked to shoot guns, but didn’t like to hunt because of his great love for animals.  He even raised wolves for a time.  Steve loved music and was known for playing left-handed guitar.  He also loved riding motorcycles and had a need for speed.  “Beaver” as his family lovingly called him was loved by many.  Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital in Steve’s name.

Steve is survived by his sister, Kathy Miller; brothers, Ray Miller and wife, Linda, Rick Miller and wife, Frances, Billy Johnson and wife, Krista, and Robert Turner, Jr.; aunts, Rose Weaver and Linda Grimaldo; and numerous cousins, niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gay Nell Johnson; father, Robert Turner, Sr.; and nephew, Travis Johnson.
