Funeral services for George Nolen Ashabranner, 95, of Timpson, TX, will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. John Raines and Dr. Abede Alexandre officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at 10:00 AM.
George Nolen Ashabranner, 95 of Nacogdoches passed away on May 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 26, 1929, in Fort Worth Texas the son of Marguerite and Melvin Ashabranner.
Nolen moved to Houston Texas as a child where he was raised. He started working at the age of 12 to help support his mom & siblings. His siblings called him Noney. He was a Sargent in the 45th Infantry Division in the Korean War. Was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, Army Occupational medal (Japan), Union Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Bar.
He met the love of his life and married Norrie Loraine Ashabranner on January 7, 1972. Together they spent over 46 years. Nolen was a wonderful man who devoted his time to his wife, and 3 children.
Nolen retired after 30 years from Southwestern Bell phone company then spent the next decade building churches and doing mission work.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneer’s, World Hunger, and Good Hope Baptist Church, he was also a Master Mason of the Masonic Grand Lodge of TX for 50+ years.
He loved working outdoors, he kept a well-manicured yard, and loved gardening, He helped his neighbors or anyone he knew that needed help. He was a jokester and loved to pull pranks on people.
He is survived by his loving children: George Nolen Ashabranner Jr. and wife Carolyn of Newton, Texas, daughters, Patricia Warming and husband Todd of Newton, Texas, Mary Butler and husband Wayne of Timpson, Texas, Siblings Felix Ashabranner & Margie Shaw. Nolen also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are: Donald Thompson, Jr., Craig Thompson, James Ashabranner, Logan Ashabranner, Elton Thompson, Jr., and Elton Thompson III
