Michael Lee Ross, 75, of Nacogdoches, TX, passed away on April 3, 2023. Mike was blessed to be deeply loved by his friends and family. Mike was born to Jesse Lee and Lois Ross on February 9, 1948, in Center, TX. Growing up in Timpson, Mike had fond memories of his childhood: his beloved dog, Pedro, was his closest companion, he worked alongside his father starting at age twelve, and played quarterback for the Timpson Bears during several playoff seasons. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University before committing to the family business at Ross Lumber. He married Vicki Chasteen in 1973 and began the journey of raising a family and relocated to Nacogdoches in 1981. Throughout his life, his greatest joy and pride were his four daughters. He enjoyed many sports: baseball, football, golf, and skiing. Whether in the bleachers or through the screen — there wasn’t a Houston Astros or Texas Aggies game Mike would miss. He was ecstatic about attending the 2022 World Series where his Astros were crowned champions. Mike loved golfing at Piney Woods and skiing in Aspen, Colorado with his close friends during his later years. He loved to fish and could not wait to cast a line for redfish — especially in Southern Laguna Madre. He loved spending time with his five grandsons and three granddaughters and aided in any way he could to their academic, athletic, and personal achievements.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Misty Nixon, and her husband, Scott, and their children, Caroline and Elizabeth of McAllen, TX and William Greer of Bennington, VT. His daughter, Amy Ross, of Houston, TX. His daughter, Shelly Ableson, and her husband, Cutt, and their children, Ava and Ben, of Houston, TX. His daughter, Kacey Ruppert, her husband, Kyle, and their children, Jett, Jack, and Beau, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. His sister, Linda Collins, of Carthage, TX. His niece, Donna Burchett, and husband, Jim, of Timpson, TX. His nephew, Gary Collins, and wife, Leslie, of Heath, TX. He is preceded in death by Michael Ross, his infant son, and his parents Lois and Jesse Lee Ross.
