Laverne Pope Obituary
Laverne Pate Pope, 87, of Wimberley, Texas, passed away on January 3, 2017 in Wimberley, Texas. She was born on August 27, 1929 in the Waterman Community, Shelby County, Texas, to Willie Bruce and Ida (Powdrell) Pate. Visitation will be on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson, Texas. Funeral service for Laverne will be on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas, with Bro. Blackie Cranford and Brandon Adkison officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Timpson, Texas.
Laverne was born and raised one of ten children in the Waterman Community in Shelby County. She graduated Timpson High School. Her hobbies included cooking, cleaning, and watching the Houston Oilers play football. She also enjoyed shopping, dancing, listening to music, and above all spending time with her family. Laverne found joy in baking pies anytime of the year. She especially enjoyed the fall of each year and getting dressed up especially at Halloween.
Laverne is survived by her children, La Ouida Faye Mora, Janis Mora, Randy Paul Mora and wife Lisa, and Rhonda Michelle Hughes Compton and husband Thomas Jr.; sister, Orine Ingram; grandchildren, La Nita Box Adkison and husband Gary, Robbie Box, Tonya Burkhalter, Yvonne Dee Birdwell Long and husband Yancey, Layla Denise Mora Wood, Lewis Paul Mora and wife Amanda, Mason David Mora, Douglas Paul Owen Jr., Ashley Michelle Compton Warren and husband Andy, Thomas Cordell Compton; great grandchildren, Brandon Adkison and wife Alicia, Brittany and the late husband Ryan King, Holly and the late Bryson Adkison, Rachelle Box Oliver and husband Rick, Logan Box, Valerie Hedrick, Tanis Scott, Katelynn Scott Ortiz and husband Omar, Shiloh Lemons and wife Alexia, Grason Long, Rhonya Long, Kai Wood, Lexy Wood, Kinley Mora, Lathan Mora, Rayce Owen, James Ryder Owen, Nathaniel Warren, Joselynn Warren; great great grandchildren, Presley Adkison, Brooks Adkison, Ford Adkison, Beckham King, Britton King, Paige Hedrick, Kennedy Adkison, Reese Oliver; and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her spouses, Pete Mora, Robert Ray Hughes, Larry Pope; sisters, LaMerle Cockerham, Oleta Darnell, Willie Day Green; brothers, Arvel Pate, RC Pate, William Pate, Pershing Pate, and Dalton, Pate; and great grandson, Bryson Adkison.
