Joann (Bailey) Johnson

Joann Johnson 85, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on May 11, 2022, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born on July 12, 1936, in Shelby County, Texas, to the late Wilburn and Lillian (Allison) Bailey. . Services will be at Taylor Funeral Home on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Corinth Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 pm on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson, Texas.

JoAnn was born on July 12, 1936, in Shelby County Texas, to Wilbern B. Bailey and Lillian Allison Bailey, the second of six children.  At sixteen, she married the love of her life, Laverl Johnson, and that began a lifelong adventure together spanning 64 years; they were blessed with one daughter, Debbie.  They were an Air Force family and JoAnn followed Laverl all over the world, until retirement in Tatum, Texas.  He was her rock and her courage; she was his beautiful soulmate.  JoAnn was always a homemaker – she was a wonderful cook, seamstress and gardener, always making a home wherever they lived.  She always provided gracious support and comfort for all the family.

JoAnn knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and she cherished time spent with her church family at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and Union Cross Missionary Baptist Church, always ready to give of her time and resources.

Once she was a Granny, and then Nini, she enjoyed her role as comfort-giver even more.  Everyone wanted to be first for her famous head rubs and back rubs; it seemed as if her hands could go on forever.

JoAnn is survived by her daughter Debbie and husband Ronnie Crump of Nacogdoches, Tx and grandchildren Justin Crump and wife Barbara of Timpson, Tx, Julie Rice and husband David of Garrison, Tx, great-grandchildren Kirsten, Korben, Abigail, Madalyn, Chelsey, Mackenzie, Kylie and Kaleb.  In addition, she is survived by siblings and their families, Bobby & Iris Bailey, Marybeth and Doye Crump, Georgia Burns, Richard & Susie Bailey, and Connie & Ronnie Morton, plus numerous other friends and relatives.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Laverl Johnson, father Wilbern Bailey, and mother Lillian Bailey.  She was a blessing to all who knew her and will be missed.

Pallbearers will be Justin Crump, Korben Crump, David Rice, Darron Crump, Patrick Bailey, Daniel Bailey, and honorary pallbearer Shane Crump and Nick Crump.
