Born November 17, 1923, in Farmerville, LA, Gerald James Stamps was the son of the late Fred C. and Amy (Stilley) Stamps. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February, 1942, and served until his retirement in 1962. Gerald was a Chief Petty Officer in Weapons Ordinance and saw military action aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific during World War II and also served during the Korean War. While stationed in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Gerald and Avis Ramsey were married July 20, 1945.
After his retirement, Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his love was for his Lord, his family, and
Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife Avis Ramsey Stamps of Timpson; son Gerald S. Stamps and wife Mary of
Timpson; daughters Gay Childs and husband John of Timpson and Lana Satterwhite and husband
David of Huxley, TX; daughter-in-law Marianne Stamps Blalock of Marshall, TX; brothers Frank and Virgil Stamps; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
