Garland O'neal Downing

Funeral services for Mr. Garland O. Downing, 91, of Timpson, will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Taylor Funeral Home with Chaplain Darryl Conner officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Taylor Funeral Home.

Mr. Downing passed away on November 22, 2024 in San Augustine, TX. He was born September 2, 1933 in Timpson, TX.

Garland was raised in the Corinth Community. He graduated from Timpson High School in 1951. While in school, Garland helped work the family farm with his dad. After school he enlisted in the in the Army and served in the Korean war. When his tour of duty was done, he moved to Houston. There he met Lois and the two were married on May 27, 2010. Garland loved to search his family history. He lived his life to the fullest, and never had any regrets. Garland wasn’t a churchgoer, but he loved the Lord. He was a wonderful Papa to all his grandchildren. Garland loved his family and his little dog, Jewel.

Garland is survived by his wife, Lois Sheffield Downing; daughters, Glenda Downing, Kimberly Pena, Leslie Harper; son, Lonnie Downing; sister-in-law, Carol Chester; numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends, Rodney & Stacey Bass and JP & Marilyn Corder .

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie & Maidie McClure Downing; brother, Arthur Downing; and special friend, Esther Marie Harvey.
