Dalton Pate Obituary
Dalton Pate was born September 18, 1911 in Arcadia Community, Shelby County Texas to William Bruce and Myrtie Peace Pate. He was called Home on September 15, 2015 at the age of 103. Dalton was raised, for the most part by his grandparents, William Robert and Rachel Hicks Pate. He grew up farming and hunting with his cousins and brothers. At the age of 22, Dalton Pate married LaVennie Darnell. They had one son, Robert Glyndon Pate. Dalton Pate was a life long farmer. In his younger years working on "share crop" farms or chicken farms; in his later years cultivating one of the prettiest gardens in Timpson. It was nothing out of the ordinary to see Mr. Pate in his garden well up into his 90's. Mr. Pate loved his family; he loved his church and loved working the land. His two favorite books, the Bible and the Farmer's Almanac were always close by his side and both served him well. It was always easy to tell where Mr. Pate was heading or where he had been: overalls and straw hat, the garden; dress clothes and Sunday hat, church. Dalton Pate was a faithful member and Deacon of the Timpson Missionary Church. He loved the Lord; he loved his church family and especially loved the Kids for Christ Program. It would be greatly appreciated, by his family and would honor him, if in lieu of flowers donations be made to Timpson Missionary Baptist Kids For Christ. Dalton Pate is survived by two sisters, LaVerne Pate Hughes and Orene Pate Ingram; one son, Robert Glyndon Pate and wife, Helen of Timpson; three grandchildren, Debra Pate Smith and husband Paul of Timpson, Darryl Pate and wife, Debra of Crystal Beach, and Donna Pate of Timpson; seven great grandchildren, Michael Smith and wife, Melissa, Kent Brown and wife, Mandy, Lisa Marie Ponce and husband Florencio, Connie Young and husband, Marcus, Christina Castillo and husband, Justin, Cody Bailey and wife, Helen, and Kourtney Stewart and husband, Adam; and thirteen great-great grandchildren, Tassie, Triston, Tatum, David, Bradley, Annie, Braxton, Carson, Kendahl, Analiz, Justin, Kayden, and Jay. Mr. Pate had many relatives, friends and loved ones all of whom will miss him greatly. Dalton Pate is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Bruce and Myrtie Pate; his wife, LaVennie Darnell Pate; four brothers, Arvel, R.C. William, and Pershing Pate; and three sisters, LaMerle Monkres, Oleta Darnell, and Willie Day Green.
