Charles Ronald Townes, 67, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on June 29, 2017 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on October 9, 1949 in Center, Texas to Emitt Dies Townes and Mary Lou Ivy Townes. A graveside service for Mr. Townes will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Levi Cohorst officiating.
Charles was raised in Timpson, Texas where he attended Timpson ISD and graduated in 1968. After high school, he attended Panola College before heading to Stephen F. Austin State University where he received a Bachelors Degree in Social Work as well as a second Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Charles was in town at Hayes grocery one day and there he met Kathi Stephens who he would call the love of his life until he passed. The two were married on December 5, 1981 at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church. Charles was a simple and friendly man. He most enjoyed spending time with his wife, Kathi and the two would occupy hours with the TV turned off and indulged in conversation. There was not a single thing the two did not share. He loved her dearly. Charles also liked spending time with his family and friends. They have fond memories of Charles and his Uncle James watching baseball games and horse races on television. He had a passion for music from the 1960's, especially love songs. The past few years, Charles' health prevented him from getting out and around to visit with those he loved, but his pastor's, Bro. Justin and Bro. Levi brought him great joy when they would come visit and read scriptures with him.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Kathi and one sister, Ruth Miller and husband, Ray.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emitt and Mary Lou Townes.
The family is being served by Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson, Texas. To send condolences or to sign an online register, please visit www.taylorfh.net.
