Betty Delois (Phillips) Baker

Graveside services for Betty Delois Baker, 88, of Timpson, TX, will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger, TX, with Bro. Dock Lazarine officiating. Mrs. Baker passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, in Timpson, TX.

Betty  was born on December 26, 1936 to Rufus James and Jesse Lee Phillips in Kirbyville, Texas. Raised in Spurger, Texas, she loved playing basketball and graduated from Spurger High School. After graduation, she met and married the love of her life,  Joe Bob Baker, in December of 1960 and they spent the next 64 years building their family and life together. They loved being together and would go to visit different nursing homes, she would do the singing and Bob would do the preaching.

After retiring from working at different newspapers, Betty worked for Mrs. Brinson clothes store in Timpson, Texas where they managed the store for 5 years together. She also loved making pies for the corner restaurant in Timpson years ago. 

However, her greatest moments in life came from time with her husband and serving the Lord.  She was a devoted wife, sister and friend, she brought warmth and strength into the lives she touched.  Her happiest moments came when she was surrounded by those she valued the most. When she wasn’t with family or at church, you could find her in her yard doing work and making sure her flowers were growing beautifully.

Betty loved her church at BMA Missionary Church and was there any chance she got. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” and that is how she lived her life.  She was never short on love for anyone.

She will be remembered for her love, her light-hearted spirit, and the countless memories she created with her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her husband, Bob Baker; sister, Pat Fowler and husband, Jack; and brother, James Lee Phillips and wife, Linda.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Lee and Rufus James Phillips and brothers, Wayne Phillips and Nolan Morgan Phillips.

Serving as Pallbearers are Curtis Phillips, Bryan Phillips, Daniel Phillips, Jordan Phillips and Derrick Fowler.
