Graveside services for Avis Pearl (Ramsey) Stamps, 97, of Timpson, Texas, will be held at 2pm Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Shady Grove Cemetery in Timpson, Texas.
Avis Pearl Stamps was born February 23, 1926, in Alto, Texas to Marvin and Florence Ramsey. She was one of nine children. She grew up in the Shady Grove community on the family’s farm. Growing up, Avis went by the nickname “Pete”, given to her by her daddy. Avis married Gerald James Stamps on July 20, 1945, in Jacksonville, Florida. Her life as the wife of a Navy officer took her all over the United States, with each of her four children, Gerald Stanley, Steven, Gay, and Lana being born in a different state. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a wonderful quilter, and loved to crochet and sew. Avis was a fabulous cook, she loved to read, play card games, play bingo, and dominoes. She enjoyed fishing and was especially happy when she outfished Gerald. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church over 50 years where she was extremely active in the church. Avis taught Sunday School Classes, worked Bible School for many years. Avis studied her bible and knew many scriptures by heart and was extremely faithful to pray for others.
She is preceded in death by her father, Marvin Ramsey and her mother, Florence Ramsey; her husband, Gerald J. Stamps; her son, Steven Stamps; and all of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Gerald S. Stamps and wife, Mary; her daughter, Gay Childs and husband, John; her daughter, Lana and husband, David; daughter-in-law, Marianne Stamps Blalock; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
